Cairo – Veteran Egyptian writer Mahmoud Salem died this morning in the Egyptian capital. He was 84.

Salem used to write a weekly column for the Egyptian Arabic language daily Al Tahrir.

He is one of the pioneers of crime and adventure literary writing in Egypt and the Arab world. He wrote his first series of adventure stories at the end of the 1960s. The series took the journey of 13 Arab adventurers in fighting international crime as centre stage.
